Round 6 Tracking Survey

Tracking Survey of Swing State Republicans: Trump's Their Man, No Matter Who He Insults

We've completed our sixth wave of tracking swing state Republicans’ support for Trump. We polled for support, read the respondents a recent statement by Trump, this time the insult to a Gold Star family, then measured the impact of that statement on their initial plans to vote. Trump supporters upset by his recent statements were given the opportunity to explain why. Here are the survey highlights:

  • Trump’s insult toward the Khan family resulted in a modest dip in support among swing state Republicans (within margin of error).
  • No matter what Trump says, his strongest supporters continue to back him.
  • Voters who lean towards Trump are moved by his attacks on fallen heroes but not strongly. Only six percent of likely Trump voters say they would be much less likely to vote for Trump after seeing him insult a Gold Star family.
